How does it work?

Contractors kept telling us they were looking for a no-frills umbrella company service that still delivered a professional, efficient and compliant service, but at an affordable price. The vast majority of contractors don’t need a complex and personalised service, but are still expected to pay for the costs that such services attract. So we listened, and launched Springboard Umbrella Company to meet that need.

Our experience and market knowledge told us that the best way to run a no-frills umbrella company service at an affordable price is through economies of scale. And our vision is to become the premier contractor and freelancer services company of choice, which means we have a long-term business strategy to grow in this market. That’s why we decided to launch Springboard Umbrella Company as an initially free service, to build customer numbers quickly.

Once we have reached our target number of contractor clients, then we will publish our charges for each level of service we provide. We will continue to maintain a free service for contractors already signed up with us, for the remainder of their current contract. We will also continue to provide a free basic umbrella company service for contractors with very basic needs. Those contractor clients who need a higher level of chargeable service will be given the choice to stay with us and pay fees for the services they use, or leave with no penalties.

We can provide a free umbrella service because we are a well-funded business that has taken a strategic decision to commit to the contractor services sector for the long term. We don’t use the flat rate VAT scheme, or offshore solutions, or any other ‘clever’ (and sometimes questionable) mechanisms to provide our free service.
